Proud Mom

Silly me left the house today without the camera, so all I can do is type about the day. There are no pictures to remember it by. Today Billy's work place had a company picnic at the boss' house here in Grottoes. It was from 11:00 until 4:30. I figured there was no way that we would make it the entire time and I wasn't sure how the eating lunch thing was going to work with no family there to help with the girls. Well we didn't arrive until 11:30 because the girls took a nice 2 hour nap this morning and then needed to eat. They could take a 2 hour nap because they had us up at 6:30am. What can I say I have kids that are set on their schedule already. While we eat lunch at the picnic the girls played with toys sitting in their car seats, and the best part was that they didn't fuss. They played with their toys. After eating they were admired, passed around, and loved on by others. I got Emma to go to sleep in her car seat and minutes later Ali went to sleep laying against me. Their buddy from the babysitters was there and she sat beside me anxiously waiting for them to wake up so that she could play with them. They took a short nap......long enough for daddy to enjoy the pool with all the other big kids there. After waking up and playing some more I recognized the sign of hungry babies and got the bottles ready before they started to fuss. Morgan was right there with me being my great helper. We fed them and they played some more. We were able to stay until 3:30 when most others were leaving. I couldn't believe we had stayed so long and we had such great girls. For the most part we were out by the pool and it was a warm day without much shade and they were awesome. I was so proud!!! We are finally reaching a point where we can be out and about and it's not a huge operation or disaster.

Back to Work.....Kinda of

This week was my first full week back to work. I put kinda of in the title because yes I was back to work, but the kids don't start until next Tuesday. So there was some working, but also of catching up to do with other teachers. I have to admit that it hasn't been hard to leave the girls in the morning with the babysitter. It is hard when I stop and think that now I see them about half an hour in the mornings and about four hours in the evening and that's it. Tina will probably see more changes and milestones than me now because she sees them more during the day. I will just have to take joy in the kids at school that I work with when they reach a milestone or accomplish something special. I've done ok this week with the whole working mom thing. I'm tired, but ok. Tonight was bath night for the girls and I realized that I was a little more exhausted than I thought. I bathed Ali in her shampoo and started to use her body wash for shampoo. I think that's a sign that I need more rest. Although to my defense last night was back to school night and I got home late with the girls and didn't get as much rest as usual.

Round One

Saturday we stayed home all day. We used to always take off some where, but with two babies and no money times have changed. Our great neighbors were outside pressure washing their house and I went to chat while the girls were sleeping. I turned on the monitor and out the door I went. After some nice adult conversation the monitor started to make noise and light up. It was time for them to get up and eat again. They sleep in their own cribs, but while I made the bottles I thought that they would like to be together. I was hoping they wouldn't cry as much if they could see someone instead of an empty crib. As I came back the hall with the bottles in hand I heard this smacking sound and wondered what I was about to find. What I found was Emma smacking Ali in the head and when I asked what they were doing Ali looked up at me with that shy grin on her face like she was going to get out of what trouble they were about to get in. When I had left the room both girls were on their backs side by side. What I came back to was Ali turned over on her tummy but her head going into Emma's tummy when she wasn't holding it up. I guess Emma didn't like the fact that Ali was coming into her personal space and decided to start smacking her in the head. The sad part is that Ali didn't seem to mind, and had the biggest grin on her face when I asked what was going on in that crib. The fun is just beginning. Something tells me that this is only the beginning of many friendly and not so friendly battles.

Summer Time

The girls missed part of the parade as they took their evening catnap.

Finally they are awake and ready to watch! Just for Daddy I got a picture with the twirlers in the background. Daddy just loves how they hold up a parade and how there can be so many different ones in a parade. I always tease him that our girls will want to do that when they are older.

When I think of summer I think of vacations to the beach, getting sand between my toes, the excitement of visiting a new place and going out to eat at night. The next best thing to summer vacation at the beach is a lawn party and parade. I am like a kid in a candy store. Why at the age of 28 do I still want to go to every one in Rockingham County? This summer we have not done any lawn parties or parades until tonight. Tonight we only had to travel about 4 blocks and we took part in the Grottoes lawn party and parade. We had lawn party dinner first, topped of with an awesome funnel cake and then we watched the parade. The girls were asleep at the beginning of the parade. Emma woke up first and enjoyed the fire trucks and twirlers. Over half way through Ali decided to wake up and take part in the excitement. She woke up just in time because a fireman was coming by with lollipops and each girl go one. Their first piece of candy from a parade. We didn't dare go back down to the lawn party grounds after the parade to take part in the true lawn party spirit, but headed home because it was already past the girls bed time and they were being so good. We didn't want to push our luck to much. If was nice to finally participate in something that reminded me of summer.

Nap with Daddy

Ali hasn't been feeling well this week and yesterday the most she could stay awake was about a hour and a half. So when they woke up at 4pm from a good nap and wanted to eat I feed them and was surprised that Ali stayed up so long. But then after 2 hours she was done in and needed a quick evening nap before bedtime.
Today (Thursday) Ali felt even worse. She did her morning time with Tina, our babysitter, but when I went to pick her up around lunch she looked like she had been in a fight and other person had won. Getting a cold when your about to turn 5 months is the pits! I hope she gets better soon because I go back to work next Friday and don't want to have to worry about taking sick days already.

A day late.......

My goal was to post these pictures yesterday, but I ran out of time. I took these yesterday morning (Tuesday) when the girls woke up from sleeping in their own cribs overnight. Please excuse the boy pj's but when you are buying 2 of everything you'll take boys clothes on the clearance rack for a good buy. The girls have done well now sleeping in their own beds. I think that Ali enjoys the freedom to roll around and lay anyway she wants. Emma has to be up close to the edge because she spends the night with her head in the crib bumper. Hey, what ever makes her happy.

Two Beds

Tonight for the first time the girls are sleeping in their own cribs. Emma has had this bad habit the past week or so of waking up in the middle of the night and being up for an hour or two and she eventually wakes up her sister. So tonight we are trying them in their own cribs to see if Ali can get a full nights sleep. I know she will still be able to hear Emma, but at least she can't be kicked at. Well I'm off to bed because I'm sure that in a few hours I will be up with Emma and that is starting to wear me down.
